The MiddleMan

Lauryn Hill hired book designer Audria Wooster at Indigo Design to redesign the book after not being satisfied with the previous designer. The goal was to design a book that was bold, powerful, elegant but with an element of grunge. Strong typography was key, All caps to emphasize the importance of her words.

The book is actually a poem titled “The Middle Man,” describing her distaste for the music industries exploitation and a world that holds marketability in higher esteem than truth.
An excerpt of the book says, “If everyone is a product of this society, who will say the things that need to be said, and do the things that need to be done, without compromise? Truth will never start out popular in a world more concerned with marketability than righteousness. It will initially suffer ridicule and even violence yet ultimately it is undeniable. All of humanity is living in a dream world but suffering real consequences.” Lauryn Hill
